To Aunt Margie and all the boys..
It was a real blessing to grow up with your family, including Uncle Bob. I'll remember him as always cheerful and with great stories to tell. We were always welcome and always included, and that means a lot. Julia said it best, so I'll echo what she said, and add that you're in my prayers, too. Love, Kathy. Or as Uncle Bob use to call me, Kathymae or KathyCo. :)

I will miss my Uncle. My best memories of him are his deep resonating voice that you felt in your chest whenever he spoke to you; his jet black hair that he always had; watching him play the piano, (it always reminded me of how they played it in the saloons in old Western Movies); He would always tell me how he wanted to name his daughter "Julie" but since he only had son's....and how he drove to Virginia to welcome me to the world; How I had the same name as a "horse in Kentucky". But most of all, I will remember how special he always made me feel and how genuinely loved. He had the greatest stories and would give us all the old "commerical records" to play with at home.....I knew the "Sweet Sue" and some shoe commerical by heart! I remember listing to him and my cousin's on the air during those terrible tornado years and it was always such a comfort to know he was watching out for us. I love him dearly and will miss him so very much....another part of my youth is gone but not forgotten.

I did not know Mr. Dunnavant but I do know Jeff and Jason Dunnavant and their parents. I want to express my deepest sympathies for the passing of their grandfather and father. Many people had a high regard for him. I wish I could have known him. I will be praying for the family. May God bless you all.

In 1976, I worked briefly for WKAC in Athens. WJMW & WJOF were the other stations in town. After being in Athens for a couple of weeks, I decided it was time to take a look at the competitor's facility. One night, I ventured over, walked right in through the open front door, finally finding this unassuming fellow in a control room. Immediately, I understood that this was the WJOF studio. Honestly, I thought this fellow was just another nighttime radio announcer, but he finally told me he was Bob Dunnavant, and that he and his dad operated the radio stations. I visited with him on several occasions, and each is a pleasant memory.

Until now, however, I did not realize the extent of his experience and fame. He was obviously a fellow that had been there and done that, but he still had plenty of time to visit with a "kid" disc-jockey from the other station in town. To me, that speaks volumes about his character.

Rest In Peace, Bob. I'm glad I got to spend a little time with you.

Some of my fondest memories of growing up in Athens was falling to sleep at night listening to Bob Dunnavant on "the Big 50, WJOF". He is warmly remembered and appreciated by many.

Tommy, you and I are a lot alike, in that we both had wonderful fathers. To you and your mom, and your brothers, please accept my deepest sympathy. It will be a real comfort to you to have the great memories of someone who was so distinguished in his lifetime, and touched so many lives. The prayers and best wishes from my family go out to each of you.

I can still hear Mr. Dunnavant's voice announcing the local ball games with play by play descriptions. I also remember "Pappy" Dunnavant and his morning broadcasts. Mr. Dunnavant and his father were certainly Athens icons. I know he will be missed and like his father, will always live in the memory banks of many people. My sincere condolences go to his family.

I met "Bob" many years ago when I fist went into broadcasting. His love for music and radio was indeed an inspiration not just to myself but countless other young personalities. I could sit for hours and listen to him tell about his career and the people he had met and the places he had been. He will be sorely missed. Bob was truely a blessing from above.
