To The Family of Army Spc. Robert E. Dyas,

I am the head football coach, at Broadway High School, located in Broadway, Virginia. Each week, our football team plays in honor of a fallen soldier, who gave their life supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. This week, we are playing in honor of Robert. During this difficult time for your family, I hope it brings you peace knowing that Robert continues to inspire others. Our players and coaches take a tremendous amount of pride knowing that we have the honor of playing for your son. I hope we make you and Robert proud. Thanks and God Bless.

I didn't know Robert ,but whilst in Horsham I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs Dyas ,Robert's grandmother I assume. She was a charming lady always polite and a pleasure to serve in the shop I worked in.I'm not at all surprised at the heroism of her grandson, it must run in the family I think.

I'm so sad that Rob passed away. I only knew him for a little while when he and his family lived with us. I just found out today and I'm shocked. Thank you for your service Rob :) I'll remember you for the rest of my life.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Robert will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you.

I Salute You.

Condolences for the Fallen

They are not just a soldier
they are someone’s child,
They are not just a soldier; they are someone’s love,
They are not just a soldier; they are someone’s parent,
They are not just a soldier, they are someone’s friend,
They are not just a soldier, they are our soldiers.
May we never turn them into a statistic and always remember all the hearts they touched, courage they personified and life they had lived. To the families of our fallen words can not express our sadness. We will not forget all you have given. We are so sorry for your loss.

October 2, 2011

Melissa and Jerry, I just heard about your loss. My prayers are with you and the family. I have just a vivid memory of Robert as it has been quite a few years since we have seen eachother, when I heard of your loss, it just broke my heart. You should be very proud of your son. I remember that happy little boy that followed Jerry around, fishing pole in hand, the camp outs and family time we all spent together. You raised a very strong child with a big heart and he is with our savior now. God bless you all during this grieving process. Love you both!

My heart goes out to your families. It sounds as if Robert was a lot like my Grandson, John Corey Johnson, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 27 this year. These young men are doing a great service for their country and are indeed heroes. May God bless and keep you at this time. I would love to come to the service but do not know if my health will allow it, but my thoughts will be with you as they have seen I first heard.
