Robert Ellison Sr.

Robert Ellison, Sr. was born August 17, 1930 to Walter and Beatrice Hall in Dallas, Texas. Robert Ellison, Sr. passed away on June 29, 2010 in the presence of his family at the Hospice Austin. Robert and his family relocated to Austin, Texas when he was four years old. He accepted Christ at the age of 9 at the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church and was baptized by Reverend J. H. Washington. He served as a member of Usher Group Number Two for many years. He attended church services until his health began to fail. Robert attended the Austin Public Schools and graduated from the original L. C. Anderson High School in 1949. He played in the band while at Kealing Junior High School. He played the bass and also a trumpet while at the original L. C. Anderson High School. He was a member of the band under the direction of the well known band director, Mr. B. L. Joyce. Robert attended Huston-Tillotson University (HTC) majoring in music and he also attended Community College and Central Texas College. He received certificates in Construction, Creative Keylining and Intermediate Press Set Operations. He served his country through the United States Army; where he played in the Army Band and was on the Boxing Team at Camp Stoneman, California. Robert was honorably discharged in 1953. On July 10, 1958, he married Jo Ella Johns. To this union three children were born. He worked for several years at the Lake Austin Inn as a waiter, and Ragsdale Airport. He retired from the State of Texas Employees Retirement System with 33 years of service. Robert's greatest joy was the love of his family and friends. He loved music and had a great sense of humor and would always offer a word of encouragement to others. Survivors include his loving wife; Jo Ella Ellison, three sons, Gregory Allen Johns (Debbie) of Inglewood, California, Robert Ellison, Jr. and Lloyd Byron Ellison of Austin, Texas; one daughter Robin Christine Ellison Montgomery (Marvin) of Dallas, Texas; three granddaughters, Elisa Movet Montgomery of Houston, Texas, Paige Michelle Montgomery of Dallas, Texas and Barley A'Lexys Ellison of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Ellison, Sr. and Henry Lee Ellison; one sister, Elizabeth (Curly) Ellison Thompson; one special nephew, Dexter Leshawn Ellison of San Marcos, Texas and one special niece, Bridgett Elaine Ellison of Austin, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews,
