Robert Embesi Obituary

Robert Domonic "Bob" Embesi

Darby- Robert Domonic "Bob" Embesi, 81, passed away on September 1, 2022, at Community Medical Center in Missoula due to natural causes.

Robert was born on November 10, 1940, to Joe and Edith (Naccarato) Embesi. Robert joined the United States Marine Corps just before his seventeenth birthday. He later earned his High School Diploma in 1969 which was needed to become a Warrant Officer at the Army Navy Academy.

Robert served in the Marine Corps from 1957 to 1982. In the earlier years he served as a Platoon Sergeant. He served with tanks 1st-, 3rd and 5th Tanks battalion. He did tours in Vietnam from 65-66, and 67-68.

He shot on the Marine Corps Shooting team from 1970-1982. He achieved "Double Distinguished" status (he was a Distinguished Marksman and a Distinguished Pistol Shot), and, according to the information in Volume II of The History of Marine Corps Competitive Marksmanship, he went Distinguished with BOTH the Rifle and the Pistol in 1978. He retired as a CWO-4 Marine Gunner. Robert was a leader of Marines, and a highly respected man in and out of the USMC. Through the ranks he made sure that his Marines were squared away. He taught them with common sense and kept a lot of his Marines alive.

Robert was married and later divorced. He was a restaurant owner and chef in several local restaurants for a short time. He was a member of the Marine Corps Distinguished Shooters' Association and the United States Marine Corps Vietnam Tanker Association.

Robert is preceded in death by his son Robert Embesi. He is survived by his son Anthony Embesi (Kashayla) of Hamilton, and Granddaughter Morgan Embesi of Hamilton.

Robert's graveside service will be held on September 14, 2022, at 2:00pm at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula. Funeral Honors will be presented by the Active-Duty Marines and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Gunner was one of a kind that I´m happy that he called me a friend and a brother Marine. We spent many days on the firing line shooting and I always enjoyed the stories about the Corps. Great memories of a great man I will have for the rest of my life. Semper Fi Bob!
