Dr. Robert B. Faust, MD, a distinguished ENT physician and dedicated captain of the US Navy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 92 on Oct. 28, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, dedication, humility, love, and devotion to his family.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Maureen Faust; their children, Sue (Tim) Schubert, Jim (Celeste) Faust, Christie (Tom) Elliott, Julie (Matthew) Ouimet, and Cathy (Mark) Mollandor; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Carol Robinson. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Bernard and Helen Mae (Blakeslee) Faust, and brothers, Victor and Richard.

Bob was born on Oct. 22, 1932, in Jamestown, ND. He grew up in Atkinson, NE, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. He attended Texas A&M and Creighton universities, and earned his medical degree in 1958 from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. In 1961, while working at Salem State Hospital, he met his “brown-eyed beauty,” nurse Maureen Novak of Klamath Falls, OR, who, six months later, would become his wife of 63 years.

Bob completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego. He retired from the Navy after honorably serving for 31 years - 10 years active duty and 21 years in active reserves - as a medical officer. In 1971, he moved his family to Vancouver, WA, where he opened his private ear, nose, and throat practice and served as attending surgeon at Vancouver Memorial and St. Joseph Community hospitals, providing expert and compassionate care to all his patients. He was a clinical instructor at the University of Oregon’s Department of Otolaryngology from 1971 to 1976, and was an active member of several medical associations, including the American Medical Association and American Academy of Otolaryngology, where he was honored as a Fellow.

Bob was known for his love of family, friends, and patients, as well as his commitment to his community and church. A lifelong Catholic, his love for God and his faith were evident in how he lived his life. After retiring from his private practice in 1998, he volunteered at the Vancouver Free Clinic and Medical Teams International.

Bob led a purpose-driven life, and his sense of responsibility, positivity, honesty, and witty sense of humor inspired those who knew him. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty in life as expressed through his passion for photography. He often said, “The greatest gift you can give your children is to love their mother,” and he lived by those words. The love he shared with Maureen was truly remarkable, a testament to a bond and example that will be cherished for generations.

A Funeral Mass, followed by a reception, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 17010 NE 9th St., Vancouver, WA 98684. A rosary will be held at 10:00 am in the church.

The family would like to thank PeaceHealth Hospice for their loving, compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to them or one of Bob’s favorite charities: the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Vincent DePaul, or Medical Teams International, honoring his commitment to health care and community service. Bob will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
