Robert was born on January 6, 1943, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Chester and Sarsa Ellen (Fairchild) Filter. He received his education at Dubuque Senior High School and later attended the University of Iowa.
He married Connie Gile on November 15, 1984, in Des Moines. Bob spent 40 years working as an abstractor and concluded his long career as a dedicated employee at Wal-Mart. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Bob was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Mazan, Angela Sue (Nick) Gile-Petefish and Jennifer Caroline Gile, all of Des Moines; four grandsons, Quinton, Jarod, Austin, and Daniel; and one great-grandson, Liam and a brother, William V. Filter of Lexington, KY.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at The Salvation Army, 1330 6th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50314. Burial will take place at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial may be directed to The Salvation Army of Des Moines.
