Robert J. Finley (Bob) age 85 of Brooklyn Ct. passed away to eternal life on August 7th, 2025 peacefully at home with his wife Mabel Desrosiers by his side. Bob was born on September 4th, 1939 in Oneco, Ct to the late Charles H. Finley Sr. and Alice L.Malbaurn Finley.
He was married to Mabel Desrosiers on May 22nd, 1992 and were married for 33 years.
Bob leaves behind a son Jonathan S. Finley and wife Lisa of Waleska, GA and a daughter Elissa M. Saad(Michael Parent) of Moosup, Ct.
Grand children Abigail Garcia (Nestor) of Athens GA.,Nikola Finley of Waleska Ga, Craig Saad of Plainfield Ct.,Sabra Desrosiers(Corey) of Fairmount, GA.
great grandchildren Griffin and Walker Desrosiers of Fairmount, GA.
Bob also leaves behind a brother Charles Finley Jr. of Jensen Beach, FL and a sister Alice Elie of Bessemer City, NC.
Step children Kevin Plasse and wife Chrissy of Central Village, Ct, Randy Plasse and wife Tina of Mt. Vernon, Ohio grandchildren Cameron and Tara Plasse of Central Village CT., Kelsey Plasse of Boston Mass.,, RJ Plasse (Ayiana) of Mansfield, Ohio, Michelle Scott of Unionville, Va. and a great grandchild Holden Plasse of Mansfield, Ohio
Bob was predeceased by a stepson and daughter in law Ralph and Stacey Plasse of Orange, Va.
Bob attended Plainfield High School and enlisted in the Navy for a short period as a Navy Diver. He was employed by Pervel Industries in Plainfield, Ct.. for many years until they closed. He went to work for General Dynamics in Groton Ct. and General Dynamics in Quonset Point as a Welder on the submarines for over 25 years. His last job before retiring at 80 years old was at United(UNFI) as a security guard which he loved doing.
His biggest passion in life though was fly fishing. You would always find him at Carbuncle Pond in Coventry R.I.. His passion for fishing started at a young age in elementary school in Sterling,Ct. If you couldn't find him he all you needed to do was go to Sterling pond and there he would be with a rod in hand bass fishing. His passion escalated through the years from bass fishing to fly fishing rainbow trout..He was well known in the fly fishing world around R.I. and Ct., he created his own fly fishing business in his home, he made custom fly rods and tied flies for all his fishing buddies. He was either in his workshop creating some new fly for a customer or out fly fishing in his various ponds he loved. He was featured in an article from Field and Stream magazine as instrumental in developing a revolutionary roll casting technique for fly fishing.
The family would like to Thank Hospice for their great care during his illness. In lieu of flowers the family asks to give a donation in honor of Robert Finley to hospice for all his wonderful care.
