Robert M. "Bob" Fitzsimmons, age 88, of Orrville, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Robert was born on May 16, 1936, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Emma (Cosgray) Fitzsimmons and graduated from Magnolia High School in West Virginia with the class of 1954. He married Annie Britton on April 26, 1963, in Rittman, OH. Annie passed away on December 26, 2018.
He worked as a machinist for Westinghouse Corporation later known as Rosemont Analytical in Orrville for 40 years, retiring in 1995.
Robert was a member of Northview Alliance Church in Wooster, was a founding member of Brokenlock Longrifles Gun Club, a lifetime member of the NRA, and a member of the Senior Round Table at Kidron Sports.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Robert enjoyed hunting his entire life, whether it was deer hunting in West Virginia, running his beagles after rabbits (and sometimes the accidental - occasional deer), or just swapping stories on Saturdays with his friends at Kidron Sports Center. His other main hobby was cruising car lots, always looking for a good deal - a hobby he passed along to his son and grandson. Other passions included gardening and bartering or trading for everything he bought - even groceries. He loved going to Bob Evans and spending time with his family.
Surviving are three children, Lee (Jackie) Fitzsimmons of Wooster, Kelly (David) Hochstetler of Wooster, and Kristy (Ryan) Williams of Millersville, PA; four grandchildren, Sean Fitzsimmons, Emma Hochstetler, Evan Hochstetler, and Kaitlyn Williams; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Terek of Paden City, WV, and Dana Britton of Norton; two brothers-in-law, Harry (Nancy) Britton of Rittman, and Sam (Debbie) Britton of Wadsworth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; his wife, Annie Fitzsimmons; a daughter, Lyn Fitzsimmons; two sisters, Dorene Mason and Karen Duke; and a brother, Jack Fitzsimmons.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Newmans Creek Cemetery, 14411 Orrville Street NW, North Lawrence, with Pastor Mark Galbreath officiating.
Please consider giving a gift in Robert's honor to an organization he was passionate about, the Wayne County Kidney Foundation, 146 E. Liberty St., Suite #90, Wooster, OH, 44691.
