Robert (Bob) John Franey, Jr. of Washington, VA died peacefully in Manassas, VA on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Bob was born in 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to parents, Nancy C. Tucker and Robert Franey, Sr.
He attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA and later graduated from Macalester College in
St. Paul, MN. He spent his early career working for Pakistan Airlines and enjoyed traveling around the world. He later found success as a technical recruiter in Fairfax, VA and retired in 2008.
Bob loved spending time in Garrett County, MD where every fall he connected with his fellow Camp Minnetoska campers- a group of friends whose lives were intertwined for nearly 70 years.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He will be missed as a grill master, history buff, guitar player, and teller of the worst "Dad Jokes" possible.
Bob is preceded in death by his son, Chris Knight.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Shirley; his daughter, Stephanie Collins, and son-in-law, Ross Collins; his daughter-in-law, Claire Knight; brothers, Richard and David Franey; sister, Judy Sloan; niece and nephew, Rebel and Mike McFetridge, and their children, Emily and Ryan; and grandchildren, Mark Knight, and Max and Avery Collins.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 12762 Lee Hwy, Washington, VA 22747.
