Robert Gamble Obituary

Robert Gamble, Jr. CHARLESTON - Robert Beasley Gamble, Jr., known affectionately as "Bobby," passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family in Charleston, South Carolina. Bobby was born on February 16, 1946, in Sumter, South Carolina, to Robert Beasley Gamble and Theresa Babb Gamble. Throughout his life, Bobby called several places home, including Charleston, Florence, South Carolina, and Hinsdale, Illinois. Bobby graduated from Lake City High School before attending Wofford College. He pursued his dental education at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) School of Dentistry. In 1971, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy as a general dentist, where he later advanced to become a Chief Dental Officer. Following his time in the Navy, Bobby moved to Florence, South Carolina, to begin his general dentistry practice. He later moved to Chicago to further his studies, earning specialty degrees in orthodontics and pedodontics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Bobby moved to Charleston and established his orthodontic practice, where he served the Lowcountry for 35 years. Dr. Gamble had offices in Summerville, North Charleston, and downtown Charleston. Throughout his career, he was deeply committed to improving the lives of his patients, finding great joy in helping those in need and making a positive impact in his community. Bobby was known as "B" by his grandsons, Woods and Wells, with whom he shared an incredibly close bond. He was their ultimate "bud," and their relationship was one of love, laughter, and special memories. Bobby was also known for his green thumb, often growing banana peppers and tomatoes to share with his grandsons. He had a love for sports cars and enjoyed watching sports, particularly with his family. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Randall Pollard Gamble; his parents; and his daughter, Emily Elizabeth Gamble. He is survived by his son, Robert B. Gamble III (Hope); his daughter, Caroline E. Gamble; and his twin grandsons, Robert "Wells" Tazewell and Woods Pollard Gamble, all of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and his special companion, Pam Harrington, and his beloved dog, Mimi. Bobby's love for his family, his dedication to his profession, and his generosity of spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Avenue, on Monday February 24, at 2:00 pm; arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel. The family will receive guests for a celebration of Bobby's life at the Carolina Yacht Club following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MUSC James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine or Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Dental Clinic. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Dear Robin, we are so saddened learning of Bobby´s death! Will always remember our families together and the fun times. When I learned from your dad about the squirrels eating the wiring in your y´all´s car we gifted y´all our two brother cars, Mumbo and Jumbo who each ate a squirrel a day! Voila, problem solved. Your dad called me when the last cat died! Bobby and your mom were special and know how much we miss them ,too. Love, Mike Thurman , Michael and Rhett.
