ROBERT EDWARD GORRELL OBITUARY
Robert Edward “Bob” Gorrell, 84, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on March 23, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1939 in Wick, West Virginia.After graduating from Marrietta College in Ohio, Bob began his career at Mobay Chemical in New Martinsville, WV in 1957. He worked as a Principal Engineer supporting production. At the time of his retirement in 2001, he was a working as Manager, Manufacturing Systems and was supporting the financial analysis function in the Coatings department. He was a member of the 156 Mobay pioneers who started the Baytown plant in 1971 and was with the company through several name changes, from Mobay to Miles to Bayer.A man of many talents and interests, Bob enjoyed playing golf and sharing rides in his golf cart with his 7 grandchildren. He got a pool and built a zip line in his backyard for his grandchildren’s enjoyment. He loved Dairy Queen and helping his neighbors. His hobbies included water skiing, camping, working in the yard, traveling and attending family reunions in West Virginia.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Gorrell, brothers Chuck (Kitty)Gorrell, Ronnie (Debbie) Gorrell, sisters Anna Mae Mosser, Janet (Bill) Baker, Donna Taliaferro, Linda (Mike) Fitzsimmons, brother in law Carl Hofer, daughters Sherry Bell (Roger), Sandy Adcock (Terry), Tammy Roberts, Michele Northrup (Shawn), step-daughters Merrit Meeks (Hutson), Jennifer Adams (Stan), grandchildren Amanda Walt (Matt), Kasi Bevel (Ryan), Amy Conner (Bubba), Tara Girouard (Kevin), Nick Northrup (girlfriend, Michaela), Ryan Northrup, step-grandchildren Mallory and Jacqueline Meeks, Kyle and Mitchell Adams, great-grandchildren Olivia and Brooklyn Walt, Cody, Austin and Kollyn Bevel, Noah Conner, and Lane Girouard. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Francis Gorrell, his sister, Shirley Hofer, his best friend Art McMichael, and grandson, Joshua Roberts.A gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at his home on April 13, 2024, at 3615 East Cedar Hollow Drive, Pearland, TX, from 2-4 pm. Due to security at the gated community, please RSVP at [email protected]. Friends and family are invited to come and go to pay their respects to this remarkable man.
