Robert Lee Greenfield, affectionately known as Bob by his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 18, 2026, at the age of 84, in his hometown of
Villisca, Iowa. Born on October 14, 1941, in the same close-knit community, Bob's life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, friendship, and the pursuit of adventure.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Leslie (Bud) Greenfield and Mildred (Millie) Crowe Ankeny Greenfield. His life's journey also witnessed the loss of his brothers, Richard and Fredrick Greenfield, cousins Frank and Earl Greenfield, half-brother Raymond (Peg) Ankeny, and half-nephews Joe Ankeny and Zack Messinger. Despite these losses, Bob's legacy continues through his devoted daughter Kelly Greenfield, his cherished grandson Tyler (Anna) Boor, and his beloved great-granddaughter Audrey. He is also fondly remembered by his half-sister Mary (Lowell) Boetger, half-nieces Cheryl (Lance) Messinger and Lynn (Jay) Hammond, and half-nephews Tim and Roger Boetger.
A proud graduate of Villisca High School, Bob's commitment to his community and his trade was unwavering. He was a 60-year member of the Local 789 Pipe liners Union, a 53-year member of the Masonic Temple, and a lifetime member of the H.O.G. Harley Owners Group. His career as a talented welder in the building trades and pipeline industry included a significant contribution to the construction of the Alaskan Pipeline, a testament to his skill and dedication.
Bob's adventurous spirit was as vast as the many roads he traveled. His love for snowmobiling was sparked in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, and from there, his passion for motorcycles took him on journeys spanning hundreds of thousands of miles, from the rugged shores of Nova Scotia to the vibrant landscapes of Guatemala. Bob's love for traveling was matched only by his love for meeting new people, making friends wherever he went.
Those who knew Bob would describe him as not only funny and friendly, but also as a man who embraced life with an adventurous heart. His humor brought laughter to any room, and his genuine, friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community.
Bob's life was a rich tapestry woven with threads of laughter, adventure, and human connection. His stories and memories will be cherished and passed down for generations, inspiring others to live fully and embrace the open road with the same zest.
As we bid farewell to Robert Lee Greenfield, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His legacy will continue to light the way for all who were fortunate enough to know him. Bob's spirit, like the roaring engines of the motorcycles he adored, will forever echo in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace, Bob; your memory will ride on eternally.
A private funeral service will be held in Arlington cemetery with celebrations of life to follow this summer in
Villisca, IA. and
