Robert Albert "Bob" Hardin, age 92, of Streamwood, Illinois, passed away on October 23, 2025, at Ascension Saint Alexius.

A graveside service with military honors will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Calvary Cemetery in Mattoon, Illinois. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Bob was born on July 26, 1933, in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Aaron Allan and Ruth Hardin Wakefield. He married Sandra Jeanne Fickes on September 12, 1959.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sandra Hardin; children, Kevin Hardin and Andrea (William) Wirsing; grandchildren, Chloe Wirsing, Ryan Wirsing, Emma Hardin and Jordyn Hardin. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Bob was born and raised in Mattoon, Illinois. After graduation from Mattoon High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably in Japan and earned the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, he met and married Sandra and they moved to the Chicago suburbs where they raised their children. Bob was hired at United Airlines and later retired at the age of 62. He was elected township assessor and served for many years for the Hanover Park Township. Bob and Sandra enjoyed traveling to Florida for over 20 years during the winter months. Bob loved to stay active, scuba diving, swimming, and working out. He was a true history buff and was an avid Civil War enthusiast. Bob will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
