Robert A. "Bob" Hartness 78, of Decatur, IL passed away at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in his residence. Graveside service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014, in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek with Pastor David Heady officiating. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Bob was born October 7, 1935, in Decatur, IL the son of John and Rodella (Barrett) Hartness. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1953 and went on to attend at Millikin University. Bob had served with Army National Guard. He retired from ADM Mechanical. Bob had formerly owned and operated his own sandblasting and painting company for 22 years. He attended Prairie View Baptist Church in Lake City, IL and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. Other joys in Bob's life, was having breakfast every morning with his favorite group of guys and his high school class reunions. He recently celebrated fifty years of marriage to Helen (McRill) Hartness, who he wed on June 6, 1964. Surviving is his wife: Helen of Decatur; daughter: Lee Anna Sciutto and her husband Tom of Austin, TX; sister-in-law: Merline Hartness of Clinton, IL; nephews: John Hartness and his wife Beth and Paul Hartness. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Samuel.
