Robert (Bob) Leonard Haskell, 77, of Falmouth, took leave of this life to begin exploring the next one on December 12, 2025. He was 77.
Bob was born on September 7, 1948, the oldest of four children raised in
Levant, Maine, by Percy and Marguerite Haskell. He was a graduate of Hermon High School and the University of Maine-Orono. Bob was a career newspaperman and National Guard soldier and authored one book, Yankee Warrior. He peaked out as a sports editor during his 23 years with the Bangor Daily News in Maine and capped his 37 years in the Maine National Guard during 13 years in public affairs service with the National Guard Bureau, Arlington VA.
He retired to Falmouth in 2008. He has since freelanced as a writer, editor, and photographer. He has been a frequent contributor to the National Guard Association of the United States' monthly magazine, and he wrote a column for four years for the Falmouth Enterprise. He was a member and former Vestry clerk of the Church of the Messiah in
Woods Hole, MA, and he served on the board of directors for the Falmouth Chorale and the Falmouth Historical Society.
Bob is survived by his fiancée, Mary Fran Buckley, of Falmouth MA; by his mother, Marguerite Haskell, of Bangor, Maine; two sons, David Haskell of Pittsfield, Maine, and his fiancée Amanda Hamlin, Brian Haskell and his wife Michelle, of Wells, Maine; his three grandchildren Colby, Evan, and Lauren; his sister, Elaine Tullis, of Windham, Maine; his sister Patti White and husband Allan, of Carmel, Maine; his brother Jim Haskell and his wife Donna Randall, of Danvers, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews; and his son's mother, Brenda.
A private committal service, with military honors, will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. A memorial service and celebration of life, to be held at the Church of the Messiah, will be scheduled later in the year.
