Robert Daniel “Dan” Hays, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 85. Resident of Maurepas, Louisiana, Dan was born on May 11, 1940, in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
Dan proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, and later worked as a computer analyst for Dow Chemical in the chemical industry. A true outdoorsman, Dan enjoyed boating and hunting in his free time. He was a lifetime member of the Baton Rouge Boat Club, where he was honored to earn the title of Commodore seven times. Dan's love for music shone brightly as he enjoyed singing with the Gibson Four, a cherished group from his Air Force days. In his leisure time, Dan could often be found relaxing on his porch in a rocking chair, savoring a cup of coffee or an ice-cold Miller Lite when the day's work was done. But above all, Dan truly cherished the role of husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, loving his family more than anything else in the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise and Luke Allison; sister, Patty Allison; and brother-in-law, Frank Erwin.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Hays; daughters, Dana LeGrange (Andrew), Vicki Banta (Brian), and Lori Schillace (Johnny); sister, Barbara Erwin; grandchildren, Steven Easley (Melissa), Kevin Banta (Brittany), Michael LeGrange (Janey), Matthew Banta (Hope), Dani Schillace, and Blaise Schillace (Mary); great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Demi, Jax, Kenleigh, Baylon, Brielle, Haizley, Barrow, Ezekial “Zeke”, Eli, and Baby Steele; and numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Dan to join them as we commemorate his life. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy.
