Death Notice

Robert Wilbur Heiser

1943 - 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Robert W. Heiser, on Wednesday January 25th at his home with his wife Sharon by his side.
Robert, Bob or Bobby as friends and family called him, was born on June 10, 1943, in Kellogg, Idaho to Ethel Eileen (Easton) and Frank Heiser. The following year they moved back to Billings.
He graduated from Laurel Senior High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation he joined Burlington Northern Railroad as a carman in Laurel but retired in Glendive after 42 years of service. After he retired, he spent most of his time fishing, however, he still had the railroad in his blood and in 2007, took a job with PTI, Professional Transportation Inc, where he worked part time for 15 years shuttling engineers to and fro until his passing. He also spent 6 years in the National Guard reserve.
In August 1968, Bob married Sharon Dolechek and they had two kids, Randy and Becky Heiser.
Bob's passion for life included hunting, weightlifting, camping, bowling and fishing, fishing and bowling and more fishing, and painting lures, but his primary love was spending precious time with his wife of 54 years and his two kids, Becky Heiser (Steven Facker) and Randy Heiser, and his two grandsons, Tanner and Ryan. He also enjoyed sharing stories surrounded by family and friends.
Bob was not only known for his love of fishing but his quick wit and storytelling and his caring and thoughtfulness for family and friends. He always had a story to tell and lit up a room with his smile and his boisterous and contagious laugh. He never met a stranger he didn't talk to and was willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone.
He was a mentor to many but mainly his grandboys, Tanner and Ryan, who he inspired and taught many life lessons. Including how to drive, shoot guns, bowling, swimming and fishing of course, but most of all, kindness and compassion.
He is survived by his wife and kids and his siblings Jerry (Anne) Heiser, Janie Gibson, Carol Sands and Sharon (Dave) Herman and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday February 4th at Smith Funeral Home in Laurel at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Pike Masters with notation for the Annual Leonard Lawver Kids Fishing tournament in Laurel. Montana Pike Masters PO Box 30551 Billings, MT 59107
There will be a reception following the service at the Union Hall - 1009 E. 6th Ave, Laurel.
