Robert Hernandez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by San Jose Funeral Home - Eastside on Jan. 16, 2026.
On January 9, 2026 our loving Heavenley Father called Robert Heranndez home, welcoming him into His internal kingdom, where he now rests in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and cherished friend. He was a proud graduate of Bel Air High School, Class of 1967, and later earned his degree from the University of Texas

at El Paso in 1983. He was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served during the Vietnam era, answering his call to serve with humility and courage.

Following his military service, Robert committed his life to public service with the El Paso Police Department, retiring with the rank of sergeant in 1993. During his career, he played an instrumental role in the development of the department's first Youth Explorer Mentorship Program reflecting his lifelong dedication and passion for guiding and supporting young people.

After his retirement from law enforcement, Robert continued to serve his community by teaching law enforcement and marketing at Eastwood High School and Parkland High School. His passion for education, mentorship, and youth development remained constant throughout his life.

Robert found great peace and joy in the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and skilled craftsman. Above all else, he cherished his wife of 57 years, beloved Edna. His constant companion and forever partner in life. They were rarely seen apart, sharing a deep bond and unwavering devotion hand in hand through every season of life.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert Hernandez, Jr. (Janet); his daughter, Cynthia Marie Hernandez (German); his grandchildren Nicholas Robert Hernandez, Jacob Samuel Hernandez, and Noah Anthony Gutierrez; his siblings Rosemary and Richard Hernandez (Dorothy). He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Hernandez, his mother, Helen Skov Hernandez, and his sister, Bertha Vasquez whom he now joyfully reunites with in Heaven.

Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life, knowing that Robert has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
