Robert N. Hughes Jr. January 14, 1938 - November 10, 2024
Robert (Bob) N. Hughes Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, in Danielsville, Georgia.
Born in Smyrna, Georgia, on January 14, 1938, Bob was the son of Robert Hughes and Mary Lloyd. As a young boy, his family moved to Hialeah, Florida, where Bob developed a talent for playing the trumpet. Throughout his life, Bob was known for his strong work ethic and diverse career. He worked as an airplane mechanic for Eastern Airlines, as a drug representative for Pfizer, and as an engineer for ADM in Decatur, Illinois. While at ADM, Bob engineered a pioneering hydroponics system that led to a meeting with President Ronald Reagan. He later served as Vice President of Construction at Stiles Construction in Florida. After many wonderful years in Boynton Beach, Florida, Bob and his wife, Nancy, moved to Danielsville in 2007 to enjoy their retirement.
Bob was an avid golfer, a classic Corvette enthusiast, and a homemade winemaker. He enjoyed watching football, especially rooting for the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Bulldogs. Above all, he treasured time spent with family, particularly his wife, Nancy, whom he loved dearly. They are now reunited in peace.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy J. Hughes (Luka), his sister Carol Smith of Alabama, and his two sons, Tony Heinkel (Bonnie) of Braselton, Georgia, and Ted Heinkel (Kim) of Boynton Beach, Florida. He is survived by his sister, Candice Tobin (Victor) of South Carolina; his sister-in-law, Julie Webster (David) of Jupiter, Florida; his sons, Thomas Hughes (Stayce) of Amelia Island, Florida, and William Hughes (Beverly) of Tampa, Florida; his daughters, Tami Laing (Jay) of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Tricia Huth (Brian) of Danielsville, Georgia; as well as 16 grandchildren: David, Nicole, Erin, Jessie, Bryce, Jade, Brandon, Kristen, Davin, Gibbi, Stephanie, Bailey, Gabriel, Corinne, Madeline, and Danielle, and 10 great-grandchildren.
