Robert Hughes Obituary
PEMBROKE
Mr. Robert Theron Hughes, age 73 passed away Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Hughes was born in Statesboro, GA on November 26, 1948 to the late Robert Tatum Hughes and Georgia Colson Hughes. He was a 1966 graduate of Bryan County High School and served in the Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. Hughes worked with Claussen's Paving Company and Southern Aggregates before establishing Hughes Contracting Company in 1985. Mr. Robert owned and operated the family business for over two decades. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. Hughes enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to travel, especially to Biloxi, MS.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bonnie Kay Bazemore Hughes of Pembroke; one son, Joseph Theron Hughes of Pembroke; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and David Shuman of Ellabell; one brother, Sandy Roger Hughes of Pembroke; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Billy Glosson of Dublin and Majoy and Jack Waters of Brooklet; and two grandchildren, Savana Kay Hughes and Joseph Grant Shuman.
Visitation will be held 10 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with interment to follow in Northside Cemetery.
