Robert Hussa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2001.
A Life That Was Full
Robert Hussa's hobbies eventually became his family's hobbies. He took up golf and got his oldest son, Robert Jr., hooked. His wife, Kathryn, was taking lessons, too. And though his youngest son, Thomas, did not play golf, Mr. Hussa managed to interest him in skiing and riding mountain bikes. Those were his hobbies, too. "Every season, there were different activities," said Kathryn Hussa. "We were rarely home."

Mr. Hussa, 51, a senior vice president at Carr Futures, shared more than just his hobbies with his family. He believed in honesty and integrity, and stressed the importance of those values to his children. "He led by example," said Robert Jr. The weekend before the World Trade Center attack, Mr. Hussa joined Thomas and his friends for a barbecue at the family's home in Roslyn, N.Y. The next day, he rounded up Robert Jr. for an outing to a Jets game at the Meadowlands. "He was very content with his work and his family," said his wife. "He had a life that was full."

To the Hussa Family:

Death leaves a heartache
that no one can heal,
Love leaves a memory,
that no one can steal.

Thoughts of your loved one will always be remembered in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.

Last night I was at a rememberance prayer service where we were all given a glow stick with a name of someone lost on 9/11/2001. I received Robert's name and came online to meet him. I did not personally know anyone who we lost that horrible day. Now I do. My prayers will remain with Robert's family now. I will not forget. God Bless You and help you.

Here in my small town in South Carolina my Lions Club each yr on this date stands on the street corners with American flags to remember those that died on this day. Each flag has a name and the place of death. It was my honor today to have the flag of Robert Hussa. Even though I never met him I say a prayer for his family. Never forget. Kathy,
Hope you and the boys are all well. I think of Bob whenever I am reminded of that terrible day. But with each passing year I am learning to focus more on the good times I had with Bob when he worked at Rothschild. It's comforting to remember his quiet, easy-going manner. I will never forget him. God bless you all!

My deepest sympathies to the Hussa family on this day of remembrance. May your many warm memories of Robert comfort you. I didn't know until today that anyone who shared my family name had passed away in the 9/11 tragedy. My mother was Ludmila Hussa of Denville, NJ, and it's very possible that we are related. May we never forget Robert nor all those who left us too soon seven years ago.

I am currently wearing a ribbon to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the horrible attacks of 9/11. I have the pleasure of wearing this ribbon that bears the name of Robert Hussa, Roslyn, NY. I wear this ribbon proudly and I would like to express my condolences for the loss of this wonderful man and the others that lost their lives, as well. May God bless Mr. Hussa's surviving family.

Mr. Hussa was an amazing human being. A brilliant man who could speak on the same level as anyone, without judgment. He would have given the shirt off his back to a stranger. I have no doubt that when he died he was trying to help others around him. The father of a very close friend of mine, we had several heartfelt discussions about the loss of my own father, for which I will always remember with much gratitude. He had a way of speaking that would put you at ease. I remember with great fondness being the guest at his ski house on the many weekends where he graciously taught my girlfriend, now wife, how to ski because I had no patience to do so. That was the kind of man he was. He loved his wife and sons tremendously and his pride was evident when he was around them. He was an athlete, scholar, and master chili cook. The world took a horrible loss on 9/11/01 with the passing of Mr. Hussa, and I promise to never forget.

Even though we do not know each other, please know that Bob is in my thoughts today. My brother worked with Bob at Carr Futures. I remember him talking about Bob when he would return from a business trip to NY. I recall he told me how much his family meant to him.

May you find some comfort and peace in knowing how much Bob meant to so many.

I was a friend of Tom Hussa in Roslyn H.S. He is the son of Mr. Robert Hussa. I had no idea his father was the victim of the 9/11 attacks until now. I almost lost my brother in the 9/11 attacks, luckily God gave him a second chance at life. Unfortunately, not everyone was given that chance. My condolences go out to the Hussa family. May God be with you. Much love. -David Lee ('98)

I came across the name and was quite struck - my father is also Robert Hussa. This is only shocking since, as you know, our families do not share a common "Smith" or "Jones" name. We could very well be related.

While the circumstance surrounding the revealation of this information is horrific and unimaginable, perhaps the good might be that we learn of our extended Hussa family ties.

My father, Robert Oscar Hussa, lives in California (via Wisconsin) and on behalf of the California, Wisconsin and New York City Hussa's I wish you and your family our deepest sympathy. We will be thinking of you tomorrow and always.

God Bless you,

Dear Katherine, I found out what happened from Aunt Mae. I'm so sorry we have not kept in touch. I always looked up (literally and figuratively) to you back in Brooklyn. I'm glad you had such a great marriage and still have a wonderful family to keep the love in your hearts. No one deserves this kind of shock. Maybe one day, we can talk again. I feel your pain and am glad you loved and were loved. If you ever read this, I still have photos of you and think of you. A friend from the past, Jeanette (Balsack) Carles

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Bob was a very good golfer, and thus, I never had the pleasure to play with his group. However, he was always open to give me a pointer or too. He ran a great group within Carr, and his leadership was a great asset. With all this, he was also a friend. I will miss him. Bless you.

I'm a Mocatta veteran too, who worked with Bob and Billy there in the early '70's. Last saw Bob at Sal Azzara's retirement party maybe five years ago. Bob was a delightful, classy, straight-up guy, and I was very impressed with how gracefully he had become a mature executiove in the years since we worked together. My heart goes out to his loved ones.
