I graduated 31 years ago, but still remember my favorite quote from him. My class mate was unsure of an answer and started his reply with,"...I think...."He said, "We do not think in this class. We either know or we don´t know; we don´t think."

My deepest prayers and condolences to the family. Mr. Hyde spoke daily about his wife and children in one way or another which always left an impression on me that he was truly a devoted family man. I met Mr. Hyde during the summer of 78' when he tutored me in English. I had also went to the summer camp at HH at that time and in the following summers and always saw him and we would chat a while. When I attended HH in the fall of 81', he was my teacher and advisor (which he would be for the next 3 years until his departure). I enjoyed his class and special brand of humor. He was a great teacher and all-around gentleman. May his memory be eternal.

Mr. Hyde left a lasting impression on me from 7th grade. He had high expectations for us and pushed us to work hard and learn. He laid a great foundation for me about taking pride in what I did. I remember he had a great sense of humor which I was frequently the target of, but genuinely appreciated. The baby rattle was often used to get my attention back on the work at hand. He was the first teacher to truly challenge me and set the bar high for achievement.

My condolences to his family.

Like many of us at Hamden Hall, I had Mr. Hyde for seventh grade English. He was learned, rigorous, and humorous, and I still remember many of his lessons. He was also a good neighbor, a block away on Morris Street.

I was a student at Hamden Hall from 1968-74, and fondly remember the teaching of Robert Hyde. - John Abelson

I don't remember much about 7th grade outside of the awkwardness of being a new student(it was, after all, 50 years ago!), but I DO remember the stack of books we were required to bring to every class - Thesaurus, dictionary, etc, AND how hard I worked in Mr Hyde's class to meet his standards. His class prepared me, and gave me confidence in my academic abilities.
My sincerest condolences to the family on the loss of a truly great man.

Bob welcomed me when as a new teacher I joined the Hamden Hall faculty in 1971. I remember Bob for the many helpful insights and bits of advice he´d share with me, but mostly for his humorous comments sprinkled throughout our conversations. I´m fortunate to have known him.

While I appreciated his helping me wade through and eventually appreciate Rachel Carson's The Sea Around Us in 7th grade English, I'll best recall him as the affable dad of my neighborhood BFF, Mark.
