Hi Pat - Remembering Bob today.
your cousin
Del Newberry
November 11, 2015
I pause today to honor all veterans, and to pay my respect to the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. I am praying specifically today for Robert's friends and family. My Dad was in the Army, and one of his assignments brought us to Woodbridge, where I graduated from High School. I ask God's special blessings on Bob's wife and daughter today, may they have a special kind of peace knowing that there are many of us who will never forget that horrible day, and we will always honor the memory of their loved ones as long as we are here. Much love from Texas,
Charles Robertson

Met Bob may years ago in Del Rio, TX when he was visiting family. I was married to his niece, Nelia Robles, and being Air Force myself was very proud to have know him. Appreciate his service to our country and sacrafices he and his family had to make for our country. My prayers will always go out to Bob and Pat's family. May God Bless you all.

Mrs. Hymel
I am the pilot who flew the B-52 over Arlington to honor your husband at his funeral. My wife, youngest daughter and I visited the Pentagon memorial for the first time when were in DC this weekend--it is a beautiful tribute to all who were lost. We made it a point to find Lt Col Hymel's bench and I said a prayer for him and you/your family. It was our great honor to fly the bomber over Washington that day as a tribute to your husband. I brought along an American flag on the jet that day and it was supposedly sent along to you. I always wondered if it made it to you--I hope so. Our thoughts and prayers always.

Mrs. Hymel and family, I just wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers go out to you, especially today. I recently learned about your husband from my dad, who was a B52 pilot in Linebacker II and was flying the same time your husband was shot down those many years ago. It made me so proud to think what your husband, my dad, and so many others did and are still doing for all of us.
My dad is also from Louisiana and lives in Woodbridge, so they had a lot in common. I pray that you continue to be comforted by your family, friends, and your precious memories.

I 'met' you this past month when I chose your name for my Project 2996 memorial.
I read all of the stories I could find. You were an amazing man who led an amazing life.
You were one of the best of us. We are lesser than we were with your loss.
God Bless your loving family.

I knew Bob for 32 years. I was married to him for 30 years and almost 2 months. He was a good man. Bob was not a cocky person. He was just himself. He loved his daughter and me without any reserves. Let's just say that he loved us unconditionally. Our first granddaughter, Lauren, mangaged to receive 100% of his love. He was enamoured by her and had he been alive to meet Kayla, our second graddaughter, he would have been absolutely mesmerized. She looks and acts like him. God works in mysterious ways. Bob is greatly missed and will always be missed. He was always ready to help others and had a smile on his face. There are so many stories I could share with you. If you were at his funeral, you heard the eulogy I gave for him. As a former slug said to me recently, "He was such a bad little boy!" Yes, he was. Although, I have recently remarried, Bob will always be there and I will always have a special place and love for him. You are missed dearly and always will be. You have left us with many wonderful memories. Just remember one thing: you were a very intelligent man - but what made you special is that you were just darn down to earth and you never hesitated to demonstrate yourlove. Beatriz "Pat" Hymel

I only knew Robert a very short time. As an old Navy Captain, I was assigned to student teach with Pat at one of the Arlington schools. Robert was a bright and humerous man. I could tell that he enjoyed life and loved his family. Pat and Natalie will always be in my prayers. Robert will be remembered this year at my school, Nooksack Valley Middle School, by my students "hanging his star" on the Rememberance Wall.

Pat, I am so sorry for your loss. You knew me as Bev Granade when I worked for your husband in Det 7, 4400 MES, Homestead AFB, FL in 1976-1977. I remember both of you so vividly and the love you had for each other. I was randomly searching for people I knew from long ago and saw the website on Bob. I am so shocked knowing everything the two of you went through after Viet Nam. It was an honor to know and work for Bob and I've never forgotten your kindness to me. God Bless you and Natalie!Take care, Beverly

I didn't personally know you, however, I knew your family name. For you see, my brother-in-law, Karl Kinler was one of your relatives. My parents, Walter and Evelyn Douglas lived in Hahnville for many years and knew members of your family and I taught in the area for several years. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at such a time of mourning. I feel your "light" is shining down on America, and one day perhaps we can all make sense out of such profound losses. Thank you for protecting our country in time of war, and in time of peace. My thoughts, prayers, and gratitude are with your family, and I hope that one day they can be at peace, knowing that "until we meet again" will be there's. I wish I would have had the privilege to have had an opportunity to meet you and your wonderful family.

Bob was my cousin. As happens in families we grow up and apart. But I was fortunate to get re-accquainted with Bob when the Air Force brought to him to Wright Patterson AFB in the 80's. We caught up and became close. Our families got along well and he was always quick to challenge my two sons to be all they could be. He was a loving father and husband and a wonderful friend. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and his contributions and his sacrifices to our great country. Bob,you and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers.
You are gone from this earth but live on in Natalie and her girls. You will never be forgotten.
Love from your cousin,
Pam

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Although I never knew you, your name is on the bracelet that I wear to remind me to pray daily for those you left behind. I feel honored to be useful in this way and I know God selected you for my prayer vigil...our connections are that I served with SAC during the Viet Nam era and have visited Woodbridge for special services on a couple of occasions. God's hand is with all your family.

Mr Hymel always made time to greet a soldier, he was never to busy to ask what you were doing to further your education or military career, he would get copies of study material out of the blue and make sure you had it in your hands by sundown. How's that class going did you sign up yet? Have you invested in your future? I still see his face, a man that always made time to care. I miss you and I pray for your family.
