Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duncan Graves Funeral Home - Presque Isle on Mar. 18, 2024.
Presque Isle - Robert Dean Jackson, 78 of Presque Isle, went home to be with Jesus on March 17, 2024. Bob was born June 20, 1945, the son of Hebert and Rose Jackson.
He grew up in Castle Hill, graduating with the class of 1963, the last class at Mapleton High School, an accolade he carried with pride. After graduation, Bob worked for Faraar Brown, Eastern Auto, Peterson's Motor Mart and Clukey's Auto Supply into the mid-90s. Bob joined the Presque Isle Fire Department as a volunteer in 1967, before becoming a full-time firefighter in 1989, where he proudly served until 2011. The fire service brought great honor and a sense of brotherhood to Bob. He loved to share stories of his 44 years of fighting fires and was regarded as a notable fire instructor throughout the state and a respected volunteer firefighter in Washburn. He was recognized for his lifelong commitment to fire service in 2010 as Maine State Firefighter of the Year and most recently an honorary firefighter in West Ossippee, NH.
Bob leaves behind the love of his life Vicki (Swett), his wife of 50 years, and together they have 6 children Shelley (Ross) Wortman, Lori (Bill) Wrigley, Rob (Michelle) Jackson, Sharmon (Mike) Clark, Chris (Heather) Jackson, and Jamie (Ryan) Guerrette. Papa or Grampy Bob, as he was affectionately known by so many, will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Nathan, Bradley, Joshua, Amee, Jessica, Christopher, Hunter, R-Jay, Christian, Gretchyn, Lucy, Anna, Abigayle, Isaac, Ellie, Carly, Bobbi and MacKenna and by his 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Robert Jackson, Jr., his great-grandson Llewyn Clukey and a special niece Holly Higgins.
Bob will be fondly missed by his church family at Calvary Baptist in Westfield, many special friends including Carl Allen, Glenny Mahan, Connie and Mark Higgins, many of the firefighters from the "old station" and his siblings Rose (Dale) Price, Richard (Susan) Jackson, Bill (Sherry) Jackson and Lillian (Don) Milbrandt.
Bob has struggled with many health challenges since 2021 and his family would like to thank all that have been a part of this journey. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Aroostook House of Comfort for their care and compassion over the past few days.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Framework Church, located at 387 Centerline Rd in Presque Isle. Calling hours will begin at 10 am and funeral services begin at 11 am, officiated by Pastor Bud Fancy and Pastor Larry Palmer, and will be complete with a fire service sendoff that will make Bob proud. Immediately following the services, the families invite everyone to join them for a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church. Arrangements in care of Duncan Graves Funeral Home.
