Robert Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Dec. 19, 2025.
Robert Johnson was born in 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, and most recently lived in Palmetto, Florida. He spent 40 years in Islamorada, Florida, making friends, sharing stories, and becoming a familiar - and sometimes unforgettable - presence in the community.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan Johnson, who had saint-like patience with his penchant for joking; his daughter, Tracy Johnson-Craske, who inherited her father's quick wit; and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force and remained active with American Legion Post #145 in Islamorada. Bob never missed an opportunity to serve his fellow veterans with the same dedication and friendly banter he brought to every aspect of his life. Service to others was a defining part of who he was.
Dedicated to his community, Bob was not only the owner of Papa Joe's Marina for 20 years but also served as Mayor and Councilman of Islamorada Village of Islands from 2002 to 2006. Under his leadership, council meetings were less about bureaucratic red tape and more about community and listening to the people.
Bob loved his family, his dogs, and living life on his own terms. He was truly one of a kind - you either loved him, or let's just say, many did. Never shy with an opinion and always armed with a sharp wit, he could turn a casual chat about the weather into a lively debate, often leaving friends laughing.
He took great pride in his yard, transforming it from a simple patch of grass into a pristine lawn, with his loyal dogs at his side and often while enjoying good conversations with neighbors. In a world that often takes itself a little too seriously, Bob showed us that a life well lived doesn't have to be somber or grandiose; it simply has to be lived with joy, laughter, and maybe a perfectly manicured lawn.
Bob will be remembered for his honesty, his devotion to Susan, his love for his family and dogs, his service to his country and community, and the unmistakable mark he left on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. We salute you, Bob, and we promise to keep the laughter going for you - and keep up your lawn.
