Robert Irving "Jona"Jonason Jr., 74 of Goose Creek, SC, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023.
Born on June 6, 1949 in South Amboy, NJ, he was the son of Jean Steinmetz Jonason and Robert I. Jonason, Sr.
Jona was an incredible man...loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a great friend to so many in all walks of life. He was a dedicated Christian, and instilled his faith in everyone he could. He served in the US Navy. A businessman, he loved his work, and rarely took a day off. The consummate baseball fan ("go Red Sox" and later the Braves), he coached all his children, and many others, at all levels of little league and through the high school years. Through experiences with his daughter, he learned to love and coach softball. He would even umpire when he had to! A multi-talented handyman, there were few home projects he wouldn't tackle. Needless to say, he will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jean.
Robert is survived by his wife, Carol "Kacey" Vanderbilt Jonason; sons, Dane,Tyler "Ty," Trey "Trick"; daughter, Kenzy Jonason, sister, Anna Jonason; brother, David Jonason; grandson, Bryce Jonason and granddaughter, Candace Jonason. Further, he leaves behind a nephew, Nicholas "Nick" Jonason (Arianne) of Goose Creek, as well as a brother-in-law, Howard Vanderbilt (Seattle) and niece, Melissa Burnside (New Jersey).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
A military service will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date.
