LEICESTER: Robert E. "The Rabbit" Kemp, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25th, at his home, surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Nancy J. (Collette) Kemp; two sons, Michael R. Kemp and his wife Karen of Leicester, and Matthew R. Kemp of Leicester; a daughter, Melissa J. Kerkorian and her husband Greg of Boston; a sister, Madelyn Priestley of Leicester; and two cherished grandchildren, Robert and Caitlin Kemp. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Marlene A. Kemp-Farley, in 1995; his brother, Richard E. Kemp, in 1999; and his sister, Barbara Flynn, in 2016.
Born in Worcester, Robert was the son of Edward and Viola (Duszak) Kemp. He was a graduate of Leicester High School and Leicester Junior College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. A natural-born salesman, Robert enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, including many years as a regional manager with Nutmeg Toy Company - much to the delight of his children and their friends. He later owned and operated Mega Power, Inc., before retiring. Robert was a longtime member of St. Pius X Church in Leicester, the Cherry Valley American Legion, and Hillcrest Country Club. He was an avid golfer who loved the camaraderie of the game, a spirited card player, and a man who found joy in good company. Whether celebrating holidays, family milestones, or simple Sunday dinners, Robert was happiest when surrounded by family and friends - sharing laughter, stories, and a good glass of wine.
He loved the water and cherished time spent on family trips to Cape Cod, Lake George, and Pompano Beach, Florida. A devoted father and grandfather, Robert always made time for his children and grandchildren-coaching youth sports teams, driving to countless practices,
games, and school events, and cheering from the sidelines every step of the way. No matter how busy life became, he showed up with support and immense pride in everything his family accomplished. Robert's warmth, sense of humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Robert's life will be held on Friday, November 7, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main Street, Leicester. Calling hours will precede the Mass from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester. Military honors will follow the Mass at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the Cherry Valley American Legion, 167 Main Street, Cherry Valley, MA 01611.
