Robert Kielman, age 91, of Wabeno, died on August 2, 2024 at Unity Meng Hospice Residence in DePere. He was born on February 9, 1933 in Wabeno, a son of the late Fred and Erma (Pollock) Kielman. He married the love of his life Marilyn Mallow on September 19, 1953 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
He was a graduate of Wabeno High School, class of 1952. He served in the United States Army from May 5, 1953 to April 20, 1955. Stationed in Europe he served in the 43rd Armored Infantry Battalion.
Bob held many jobs including a baker, truck driver, beer distributor, school bus driver and custodian. He retired from the School District of Wabeno Area where he worked for many years.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Wabeno American Legion Sylvan Post #44, Log Roller Snowmobile Club past president, was a town of Wabeno supervisor and volunteer for the Wabeno Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
Bob was a father figure to many, not just his own family. He considered his friends as family. It was common for him to check on cabins and cottages for friends who did not live in the area. He always made sure to look out for his family and friends. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. "Papa," was always there taking them fishing, hunting, camping, giving big hugs and pats on the back. The biggest joy was when Papa would tell them how proud he was of them. Bob and Marilyn loved camping with great friends. They especially loved camping trips around Lake Superior with old friends. Bob also enjoyed hunting and fishing, one of his favorite spots was Camp One Spring Pond.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marilyn; five children, Denise (Kevin "Skeeter") Champine of Wabeno, Shelly (Chuck) White of Mountain, Mike (Brenda) Kielman of Suamico, Kelly (Mark) Nemetz of Ledgeview, and Leah (Steve) Fatla of Wabeno; grandchildren, Josh, Mandi, Nicole (Scott), Krista (Travis), Abigail,(Kaleb), Amber (Noah), Melissa (Andy), Brad (Kim), Angela, Marki (Ryan), Annie (Kory), Ashley and Dakotah (Adam); great-grandchildren, Kevin, Brett, Halle, Ethan, Harper, Trent, Brayden, Hudson, Claire, Baylon, Aubrey, Carter, Caden, Owen, Abi, Jaxson, Clemson, Luka, Zoey, Emery, Trapper, AJ, and Mada. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Randi Lynn; five sisters, Cassie, Joan, Ardis, Theda, and Alice; and two brothers, Dick and Percy.
Bob's family would like to thank all the family and friends who helped them the past two weeks. Your visits and food made them realize how big of an extended family they have. A special thank you to the staff at Unity Hospice for the care and support they gave during this difficult time.
A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Rev. John Cerkas officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
