Salem, NY-Robert Knespler, 77, of Salem, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2010 at Pleasant Valley in Argyle. Born November 12, 1932 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Herman and Estel (Fordonski) Knespler. Mr. Knespler was educated in Queens and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1952.
He was a self-employed handyman in Benson, VT and Salem for many years. He enjoyed fishing, football games and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Queens and a member of the Francis J. Clarke, CMH, American Legion Post 812 in Salem.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Genevieve Madison Knespler who passed away March 25, 2001; a sister, Evelyn Sauerwald who passed away in 2008.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Barbara Ann and Robert Palulis of Salem, Jean and Kevin Baylor of Salem, Debra and Brian Kopchynski of North Babylon, NY and Donna and John Holmes of Salem. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robby Palulis, Michael Palulis, Melissa Palulis, Jessica Barrett, Jason Baylor, Brandon Kopchynski, Jamie Kopchynski, Kyle Kopchynski, Nicholas Holmes and Nathanael Holmes and ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 13 West Broadway, Salem with Rev. Donna Frischknecht, Pastor officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Knespler may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 Glen Street, Suite 1D, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
