Robert Wesley "Bob" Kubow, 90 of Decatur went to meet his creator on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:19 am with his family by his side.
A graveside service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday August 17, 2023, at Macon County Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded by the Macon County Honor Guard. Pastor Wray Offermann and Pastor Mark Gearig will be officiating the service. Memorials if desired may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Macon County Honor Guard. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care oversees the arrangements.
Bob was born in
Decatur, Illinois in February of 1933, the son of Emil and Emma Kubow. He graduated from Decatur High School. Bob began his railroad career with the Wabash Railroad as an electrician and retired as a communications system installer for Norfolk Southern Railroad with thirty-seven years of combined service. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran. Church, IBEW Local 513, and served as Chairman of the Land of Lincoln Credit Union. Bob served in the Army during the Korean War. His hobbies included volunteer work for his church, camping, canoeing and fishing. He held an advanced Ham Radio license (K9RZD) and enjoyed talking with radio operators from around the world. He enjoyed constructing homes and helped his children build their houses and aided many people with his knowledge of building trades and electrical work. Bob married Donna R. Booker in Decatur in January of 1955.
Surviving is his wife, Donna, children, Brenda (Wayne) Fore, Dena (Scott) Bruce, Keith (Lisa) Kubow, ten grandchildren, Beth (Jeff), Wesley, Katie (Zachary), Daniel (Shelby), Brittany (Kevin) Ben (Lexi), Zachary (Brittany) Nicholas, Jacob and Ashtyn, three great grandchildren, Emma, Carson and Charlotte.
