Just found out about Bob. Yoda can never pass, he will live on in the legacy of friends and accomplishments. See you again, my friend. Mark.

Commander Kurzawa was my OPs Boss on the USS Chancellorsville (CG 62). He is without a doubt, the finest Shipmate I ever served with, officer and enlisted, over 31 years. Not only did I enjoy working with him, I enjoyed the many times we talked about life and family. We had some great talks. I always felt uplifted afterwards. I am devastated by his passing. I will always remember him and continue praying for his family. Cindy, the love of his life, his precious children and grandchildren. He was so proud of them. Rest In Peace Shipmate. Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Bob was my best friend from the time he moved into Upper Saddle River, NJ until the time he left at the end of 8th grade. Even then, he was a force to be reckoned with and left me with many fond memories. I was saddened to hear of his passing and it sounds like he touched many more lives over the years.

CAPT (Ret) Frank X Castellano, USN

August 11, 2022

My deepest condolences to the entire Kurzawa family. Bob was my Executive Officer on USS ANZIO (CG 68). He was a mentor and friend to me over the ensuing years. We kept in contact with him attending some of my changes of command ceremonies and seeing each other at Surface Navy Association (SNA) events. He helped me immensely with my Navy retirement transition and always was willing to assist others. He had a lively and engaging personality. I will miss him greatly. I will keep him and the Kurzawa family in my prayers.

I had the honor and pleasure of serving with Bob onboard USS O´Brien (DD-975.) I became a much better Naval officer and Surface Warfare Officer because of him.

Although we have drifted apart over the years since serving together, I am extremely saddened to hear of his passing, and offer my sincerest condolences to his family.

Fair winds and following seas, shipmate.

Bob was an unforgettable character; a family man, leader, strategic thinker-he set the example of fortitude and style across life's challenges. His wry humor kept us laughing and contributed immensely to the exceptional cohesion of USS ANZIO'S wardroom. We will always remember Bob Kurzawa and his zest for life.

It was such a shock to read of Bob's passing. Bob's reputation in the fleet was always superb! The tributes he is receiving from such noteworthy Surface Warriors are indicative of Bob's accomplishments and contributions to our Surface Warfare community. Bob was my professional friend, continuing especially through our closure each year at the SNA annual symposium. Bob, you are missed! Godspeed, shipmate.

I always loved Bob. I only knew him professionally when he was in his last years in the Navy and at WBB and Sonalysts. He was the catalyst that always made good things happen and I always enjoyed our conversations and seeing him at SNA every January. He will be missed and I am sure he is now working for the ultimate master.

To Bob´s family and friends and, most important, to Bob:

I first met Bob in 1994, at sea off the coast of Bosnia, when he reported onboard USS ANZIO CG 68 as the Executive Officer. As ANZIO´s Commanding Officer, it was immediately clear that, beyond his great sense of humor, Bob was a uniquely dedicated and capable Naval Officer.

Bob had come to this most special assignment as a "Mustang", a title given to a select few that are privileged to serve our Nation as an enlisted sailor and, through a most demanding selection process, as a Naval Officer. Bob´s Navy career followed this unique path and he excelled in both roles. It was my privilege and great pleasure
to serve alongside him.

That said, through our professional experiences and decades of friendship afterwards, one thing has stood out above and beyond everything else. I have known no person more dedicated to or proud of their family than Bob Kurzawa. Absolutely no one.

Commander Bob Kurzawa, shipmate, may you forever sail with fair winds and following seas. God´s speed.

Bob was One in a Million. Incredibly logical, industrious, dedicated, calm and wise beyond his years. Simply an inspiring leader and great friend. We served together on both the OPNAV staff (twice) and the Joint Staff, and it was great to see him at the National SNA Symposium every January. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him, but none more than his cherished family. My condolences to you on the loss of a truly great man.
With great respect and sympathy,

We know that there are so many wonderful memories that people can share about Bob. My favorites are the ones that include his grandchildren, Aubrielle, Mack and Sawyer. Watching Bob let the kids run with him and he just eating it all in- totally priceless and obviously so much love! Those are some of the best memories ever!! God Bless, Forever & Always

He was a coach to my children when they were young. My son just told me a story that when Bob coached our kids, he would set the example. If he said run a lap, he ran a lap with the kids. No other coaches did that.
He always made time to stop and talk to us. He was engaging, funny and smart. We will miss him, and pray for his family.

We were so sad to hear of Bob's passing and send our thoughts and prayers to Cynthia and all of the Kurzawa family. I routinely would cross paths with Bob over the course of our respective navy careers. It was always a pleasure to see him every year at the annual Surface Navy Association (SNA) Symposium in Washington, DC each January. Our deepest condolences on the loss of this most dedicated and admired naval officer and his navy family. With utmost respect, Rob and Carrie Reilly

The first time I ever met Bob was either at a PXO or PCO course in Newport, Rhode Island. Bob was looking for someone to spank on the racquetball court and I was his next victim. Over the last 20 years or so I'd run into Bob at the Annual Surface Navy Association Symposium and he'd always make a point to chat and catch up on life and the family. Will truly miss seeing him. Condolences to the family.

I severed with (at the time) LT Kurzawa, OPS Boss onboard the USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG-62). LT was one of the most impressive people I'd met in my 30yr Navy career. Loved seeing his post on FB about his family. May his family find comfort in the remarks from people he touched and influenced. May peace and blessing be with the Kurzawa family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. We were shipmates and lifetime friends ever since we served together as Junior Officers in USS Oldendorf. Bob was a terrific naval officer, father, and grandfather. He will be sorely missed as he touched so many people in a positive way. My sincerest condolences to the Kurzawa family. I will keep you and Bob in my prayers.

Although we only met Bob a few times at various functions and get together´s throughout the years, I know he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. There are truly no words to make you feel better in times like these, we are so very sorry for your loss.
