Robert Lanier was born in Billings, Montana on March 16, 1949 to Robert & Frances Jochem and passed away July 9, 2023 in Grover Beach, California.
Robert, (Bobby when he was young), was the second of four children. His favorite time was going to their Grandmother's ranch in Wyoming where he learned to hunt, fish, ride horses and spend time with cousins. Robert graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School in 1967. After graduation, he was in the Navy, stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger in the Pacific. Robert worked at Boeing in Seattle for a time.
He loved to read and learn and was continually taking college classes.
On February 14, 1988, Robert married Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith in California. Their beautiful daughter, Marin, was born March 10, 1989. They lived in California and Hawaii where he liked to spend time on the ocean.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betsy in 2000, his nephew Brian Riggs, and brother-in-law, Mike Riggs. He is survived by his daughter Marin (Conner) Mehl, sisters Mary Ann (Bill) Jacobson, Teresa Riggs, and brother Dan (Nancy) Jochem, several nieces and nephews and friend Catherine Stephenson.
