Robert Lanier Obituary

On Wednesday, October 16th, Robert Morris Lanier went home to Heaven. He was born in Elizabeth, Louisiana on April 9, 1939. At birth, Robert's parents, Mac and Ivy Lanier, were told that their son would only live 6 months but remarkedly, he lived an amazing 86 years.
Robert's family moved to Illinois in the 1950's where he and his eight siblings built their family home from the ground up. Immediately after graduating from Aurora East High School in 1957, he began a career at the State of Illinois as an Appraiser. As a dedicated employee, he held his job until retirement.
Robert loved to travel and was known for his lead foot. But more than that, he was known for his kindness and warmth. One of his favorite holidays was April Fool's Day. He loved large family gatherings and fishing trips. He cherished connecting with his community through Church, Bible studies and playing golf.
Family was important to Robert. His wife of 50 years, Sandra Cavitt-Lanier, passed away earlier this year. Robert loved her deeply and lovingly cared for her while she battled dementia. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Rae Lenser, and grandson, Sam Lenser. He is also survived by Mike (Donna) Lanier, Virginia Lanier (Eugene) Gibbons, Greg David (Ashleigh) Lanier, Jill Cavitt (Tony) Lampros, Lisa (Steve) Cavitt, Rodney (Christine) Cavitt and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mac and Ivy (Hinson) Lanier, Lowell (Faye) Lanier, Emogene (Lanier) Castete, Sue (Lanier) Glen Oglesby, and Sandra Gale Lanier.
Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday October 24, 2025 at Norris Moss Funeral Home, 100 S 3rd Street, St. Charles IL 60174. A funeral service will start promptly at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brian Coffey of Chapelstreet Baptist Church in Geneva officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Robert's honor of his Chihuahua, Missy LuLu. The dog brought so much joy and comfort to both Robert and Sandra during their final days. Donations should be sent directly to the Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S La Fox Street, South Elgin, IL 60177.
