Robert Lankford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Centerville on Jan. 1, 2026.
Robert David Lankford Jr. (73) of Plano, IA passed away in the comfort of his home on the evening of December 27th, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on September 15th, 1952 to Robert Sr. and Opal (Briggs) Lankford. Later in life, Robert married Barbara Null, the mother of his children, and they later divorced. Robert worked as a coalminer for 18 years and anyone who knew Robert knew he never backed down from a task and was always up to learn new things.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed being outdoors mushroom hunting, fishing, and hunting all sorts of animals. If Robert wasn't fishing or hunting you could find him playing an instrument and perfecting their sounds. He was a perfectionist and liked when things were done, and done right.
Left to honor Roberts legacy are his three children, Robert Lankford, David Lankford, and Christine Lankford Richards; his step children, Rikki Cecil, Curtis Cecil, Candi Clark; uncles, David (Rose Marie) Briggs and Chet (Phyllis) Briggs; aunt, Elizabeth Poush; brother, Terry Thompson; grandkids Chaz Lankford, Jordyn Lankford, and Natasha Johnson; eight great grandchildren; ex-wife Barbara Lankford; along with other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Opal (Briggs) Lankford; sister Judy Thompson; maternal and paternal grandparents; and uncle Wilbur Briggs and Lysle Eugene Poush.
