Robert "Bob" Levine of Brookfield, CT, formerly of Stamford, passed away on January 18, 2024.
Born November 16, 1937, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, he was the second child of Esther and Max Levine. He spent his formative years on Old Colony Lane in Great Neck.
At the age of seventeen, Bob lied about his age and joined the army. Decades later, when doctors tested his cognitive ability, he would proudly recite his rifle number. Upon being discharged, he enrolled at NYU and subsequently began his sixty-year career in the hosiery business, starting in the sales training program at Kaiser Roth.
He met Carol Schlesinger on a blind date on Memorial Day weekend in 1962. They were married six weeks later in the living room of a Manhattan judge. Carol and Bob eventually made their way to Stamford, where they raised their family in a rambling ranch on Idlewood Drive. The house was under construction from about 1980 until the money ran out in 1992. Its doors were open to everyone, welcoming many people to become long- or short-term residents over the years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Carol and children Andrew Levine (Christine), Cheryl Caridad (Carlos) and Robert Jr. (Michele). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Micah, Matthew, Sophia, Hanna, Conner, Arielle and Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents Esther and Max, brother Richard, infant son Joseph, and his ride-or-die friends and very patient accountants Anthony DeVito and Arthur Haas.
As a tribute to Bob, please pay retail for your hosiery and always wear socks. More importantly, consider doing the type of favor for someone that others would find excessive.
Private services will be held.
Friends will be invited to pay their respects at a date to be announced.
Donations in Bob's memory can be made to the Camp Laurelwood scholarship fund at https://www.camplaurelwood.org/donate-now/
