Robert Charles Lininger, son of Fred Ray Lininger and Alma Evelyn (Ford) Lininger was born on November 10, 1934, in Thayer, Iowa. He graduated from Arispe High School with the class of 1953, where he played saxophone in the band and played basketball. He also enjoyed roller skating as well.
On December 30, 1956, Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Charlene Carns at the Arispe United Methodist Church. From this union they were blessed with three children – Sandra, Brian and Stephen. They settled on the farm northwest of Diagonal where he worked as a farmer. In 2013, they moved to Creston following retirement. Robert was a member of the Platte Center Church. In his free time Robert loved to fish, read good books, and work on old cars. He also enjoyed the art of the deal when purchasing a new car.
"Death is not an ending but a withdrawal; as one who finishes the long journey, stills the motor, turns off the lights, steps from his car and walks up the path to the home that awaits him."
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Creston; daughter, Sandra (John) Matthews of Smithville, Mo.; two sons, Brian (Shannon) Lininger of New Boston, Ill. and Stephen (Amy) Lininger of Spring Hill, Tenn.; sister, Patricia (Cliff) Huntington of Omaha, Neb.; along with six grandchildren, Cole Matthews of Wichita, Ks., Collin Lininger of Parkville, Mo., Brooklyn Lininger of Iowa City, Ia., and Macy, Cass and Jack Lininger, all of Spring Hill, Tenn.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis (Marion) Saffell.
