Robert Lovstad Obituary

Robert "Captain Bob" Lovstad
Robert Wayne Lovstad passed away at the age of 78, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Lightways Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family. Bob was born on March 8, 1947, the son of the late Robert and Lorraine (nee Bettenhausen) Lovstad. He was a graduate of Omaha Westside High School and Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts. Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
A talented chef, he spent many years in the kitchens of many local restaurants, sharing his love of cooking and bringing joy to countless people through his food.
For 25 years, Bob proudly ran the food service at Joliet Catholic Academy, where his dedication, humor, and kindness made him a beloved part of the school community. In addition to his work in the kitchen, he served as an assistant football coach, mentoring countless young athletes both on and off the field. Many of his former players stayed in touch with him long after graduation, becoming lifelong friends.
Bob spent many years sharing his love of the water as the captain of his own fishing charter on Lake Michigan. Known for his deep knowledge of the lake and his easygoing nature, he welcomed countless guests aboard, helping them make lasting memories on the water.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judy (nee Pahl) Lovstad; daughter, Stacey Lovstad; step-brother, Bobby Bidgood; in-laws, Terry (Diana)Pahl and Carol (the late Noel) Pahl; and special cousin, Judy McCauley. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Also cherished as family were Jane, Patrick, and Lauryn Devine, and Meghan and Matt Rafferty. Bob was also a beloved "Bonus Grandpa" to Lyla, Gavin, and Drayden, who brought him great joy.
He is preceded by his parents; his step-father, John Bidgood; brother, Dennis Lovstad; sister, Darlene McCue; mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and John Pahl; his sister-in-law, Marian White; and brother-in-law, Jack Pahl.
