Robert H. "Bob" Lowther Jr., 77, of Norvelt, lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025. Born March 27, 1948, Bob was the oldest son of Florence (Cummings) and the late Robert H. Lowther Sr. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an aviation mechanic and crew chief in his helicopter squadron. On July 5, 1969, he married the love of his life, the former Linda Marie Tarosky. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps as a sergeant, Bob worked as a machinist at the Elliott Company in Jeannette and then Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD, before becoming a corrections officer at the Westmoreland County Prison. When he wasn't working, Bob enjoyed fishing, doing projects around the house, and spending time with friends and family. Bob was an active member of several area social clubs for many years. In addition to his wife, Linda, Bob is survived by his son, Robert J. "B.J." (Tina) Lowther; his mother, Florence; and his siblings, George (Tammy) Lowther, Scott (Mary) Lowther, Louise (Tony) Nalevanko, Jeanie Koshar, and Lee (Rodney) Palmer; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. In addition to his father, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Smartnick; and brother, Norman Lowther. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt, where Fr. John A. Sedlak will officiate Bob's funeral service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025. Burial with military honors accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Association will follow in St. Paul Reformed Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at hofferwilt.com.
