Robert Lugo April 30, 1960 – January 29, 2026

Robert Lugo was born in East Chicago, Indiana, to Gustavo Lugo and Fedelina Montalvo. In the mid 60’s, Fedelina and her three sons moved to Cordova, New Mexico where Robert spent most of his life.

Robert was deeply loved by his family and friends. He cherished time spent with those closest to him.

He enjoyed swimming in Lake Michigan when he was young and going fishing with his four brothers growing up in Cordova. In his free time, Robert found joy in gardening, carefully tending to his mother’s rose bushes, gathering wood and picking piñon.

Robert was a talented individual who learned to use a weaving loom, spending countless hours creating intricate patterns and designs that he proudly sold or gifted to family and friends. He was also known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, often helping neighbors and family whenever he could. Robert worked various construction jobs and especially enjoyed working alongside his uncle, Solis Martinez, building flagstone walls, fireplaces and sidewalks.

Robert was preceded in death by his father Gustavo Lugo; his stepfather Pablo Montalvo; and his sisters-in-law Meier Lugo (Gus) and Maryrose Montalvo (Michael).

He is survived by his loving mother, Fedelina Montalvo; his daughter Ashley Trujillo and two granddaughters Aaliyah and Adalynn; his sons Nicolas Shenk and Javier Lugo (United States Army); his brothers Gus Lugo Jr., Jerry (Geraldine) Lugo, Michael Montalvo, and Joel (Desiree) Montalvo; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Burial to follow at the Cordova Assemblies of God Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Michael Montalvo, JD Montalvo, Nathan Montalvo, Joseph Valerio, Javier Lugo and Richard Martinez.

Honorary: Ashley Lugo and Jerry Lugo.
