Robert Luiz

Robert "Bob" Luiz, 76, of Fairhaven passed away on November 3, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. A long-time resident of Fairhaven, he was the beloved husband of Kathleen L. (Park) Luiz for over 48 years.

Born and raised in Acushnet, Bob graduated from New Bedford High School and then went on to continue his studies at Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Bob worked as an auto mechanic for many years and loved working on engines of all kinds.

Bob was an avid and accomplished sailor. He along with his sailboat "Tequila Sunrise" won countless regattas over his 50+ years of sailing, many as a member of the Low Tide Yacht Club of New Bedford. He was also an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for nearly 50 years. Bob loved to spend his weekends sailing around Buzzards Bay and the Islands with Kathleen and his son Russell Luiz. Bob's other passion was his 1966 Mercury Comet that he and Kathleen enjoyed taking to car shows as a member of the Acushnet based "DownShifters".

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; his son, Russell Luiz and his wife Erin of Mattapoisett; his brother-in-law, David Park and his wife Sandy of Fairhaven; his sister-in-law, Leslie Pereira and her husband Mario of Vero, FL. He also leaves behind his three grandsons, who were his whole world, Emmet, Quinn and Cru Luiz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
