Robert MacDonald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Home - Outer Banks - Manteo on Feb. 3, 2026.
Robert Glenn MacDonald, 72, of Kill Devil Hills passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026. Born on March 31, 1953, Robert was known as Rob to most and lovingly called Bobby by his wife, Karen. He lived a life centered on family, simple joys, and deep-rooted loyalties.

Rob was a lifelong and devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Sports were a constant source of joy in his life, and he rarely missed an opportunity to follow his teams. He loved following seasons closely, talking games and players, and sharing his enthusiasm with fellow fans. Attending football and baseball games brought him great happiness, whether cheering from the stands or watching from home with family and friends. He also enjoyed taking long walks, often paired with good conversation or quiet reflection. Rob was an instant friend to all he met, and his warmth and easygoing nature left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. In retirement, he fulfilled a longtime dream by moving to the Outer Banks, where he embraced a slower pace of life and cherished the beauty of the coast.

Rob shared a deep and meaningful partnership with his wife, Karen. Their marriage was filled with companionship, laughter, and many special moments, including quiet walks, shared adventures, and time spent enjoying one another's company. The life they built together was rooted in love, family, and an appreciation for everyday moments. Above all else, Rob loved his family. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with them and especially treasured watching his grandchildren grow. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and stepfather, and a grandad who took the greatest pride in his grandchildren. Rob was also very close to his siblings and greatly enjoyed frequent conversations and visits with them, relationships that were a meaningful and cherished part of his life.

Rob was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane MacDonald, and his parents, Louise and Donald MacDonald.

He is survived by his wife, Karen MacDonald; his daughter, Lauren MacDonald; and his stepchildren: Meggan Shives (Mark), Austin Simpson (Kathie), Kate Anzalone, Spenser Anzalone, and Matthew Anzalone; and his beloved grandchildren: Kendra, Cameron, Shea, and Henry.

Rob is also survived by his sisters: Gina Luhn (Chris), Mary "Chunk" O'Brien (Kevin), and Cari Reck (Gary), as well as many cherished nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warmth, humor, and enduring presence.

A celebration of Rob's life will be held at a later date.
