WATERBURY – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert MacKinnon, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He was the husband of the late Lillian (McFarlin) MacKinnon. Born on October 26, 1937, in Waterbury, CT. Robert sadly departed from this world on July 25, 2024, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Robert was a dedicated machinist and spent most of his years honing his craft at Anchor Fasteners before retiring from Anstro Manufacturing. His commitment to excellence extended beyond the workplace; at home he was a jack of all trades and able to fix anything. One of his passions was building and flying model airplanes; he was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Robert enjoyed listening to classical music, camping and most of all spending time with his family. He was a natural storyteller, and his tales captivated all who had the pleasure of listening. Robert had a penchant for documenting family history through photographing and videotaping family events, capturing memories for his loved ones and generations to come. Devoted to his family, Robert's unwavering love and care were evident in everything he did. Not a day went by where he didn’t mention and reminisce about Lil, his soulmate and forever love whom he missed dearly since her passing. They made so many beautiful memories together over their 53 years of marriage including dancing, taking long rides to their favorite places and relaxing on the beach. Their story is a testament of true love. Robert will be remembered for his kind heart, warm spirit, meticulous nature and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
He is survived by his children; Donna Pollo and her partner Johnny Gaudio of Southington, Christopher MacKinnon and his wife Michele of Plymouth, Mark MacKinnon and his wife Amy of Terryville, his sister-in-law Francoise Wiseman and beloved grandchildren; Corey, Zachary, Haley, Carly and Ashley, as well as his two great-grandchildren; Parker and Kaleia and was anticipating the arrival of his 3rd shortly. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald MacKinnon
