Musician, Song Writer
With heavy hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Robert Daniel Maher, who left us too soon on October 31, 2025 following a car accident. A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Rob touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, creativity, and unwavering spirit. His sudden departure leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled. Rob was a creative and loving son to Bob and Jean Maher, younger brother to Nicole, Lauren, Stephen and Courtney, and treasured uncle to six nieces and nephews. He endeavored to save the world through kindness. He cared deeply for all, especially those less fortunate. A musician of many instruments, he was also a singer-songwriter and loved playing the guitar and piano for friends, family, and the occasional wild animal. Rob had a passion for cooking, taking pleasure in preparing meals for himself and others, always experimenting with flavors-the spicier, the better.
Rob's warm heart shined each time on the water sharing his love of nature and sailing with young students in MA, RI and NZ, leaving lasting impressions, and inspiring them to also love, be curious and forever kind. With and without a guitar, his travels across the globe gave him peace, a growing wisdom, and fostering hope for universal love. His quick wit, insight, sense of humor, love of satire and bright laughter enlivened many a room. A singer, composer, and performer, he created multiple albums and collaborated on other original works. Rob's 2018 debut album - with a cadre of talented accompanying musicians - was reviewed as having rustically poetic lyrics and lush, atmospheric, and intricately woven arrangements. He celebrated the beauty of music with his voice, guitar, piano, keyboards, ukulele, banjo, melodica, & other instruments including his beautiful hand-made harp.
Rob graduated magna cum laude from UMass Dartmouth with a B.A. in Philosophy. He applied his thoughtful and caring spirit throughout his professional and personal life, improving communities & lives through his work and touching the hearts of all who knew him. As a true New Englander, Rob loved cheering on the Boston Red Sox with his dad. He himself was an adept player in baseball, soccer and basketball.
Rob was enamored of all the world's animals. To donate in his name, we suggest the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) at www.wcs.org. Additionally consider a supportive donation to our local food pantry https://damiensfoodpantry.org.
A celebration of life service will be scheduled for July 2026. For the online condolence book, please visit www.chapmanfuneral.com.
Rob's love, music, and kindness will echo in our hearts forever.
