Robert was born on August 20, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Arthur and Louise Mattioli, oldest son and the second of eight children. In 1967 Bob graduated from Saunders Trade and Technical High School, Yonkers, NY and then attended Westchester Community College for one year. In 1968, Bob enlisted in the US Air Force and received training as a Cryptographic specialist at Lackland Air Force Base. During his 20 year career with the Air Force, Bob held several diversified positions involving cryptology and IT with increasing managerial responsibilities. During his military career Bob was selected as the Honor graduate for the AFCC NCO Academy, class 1980-81 and NCO of the Quarter. He received two meritorious service awards as well as an Air Force Commendation Medal. Bob’s assignments included various bases around the US plus, Japan, NATO headquarters in Europe, and the Pentagon. By 1984, Bob had attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the Air Force Bob completed a BS in Management/logistics at Webster University, and an MA in Procurement & Acquisitions and Computer Resource Management at Webster. Upon completion of his formal education Bob became an Adjunct Instructor for the Logistics Curriculum at Park College.
The final phase of Bob’s professional career occurred at BB&T, Wilson, NC where Bob applied his talents to IT project management. During the BB&T years, Bob’s IT responsibilities included logistics/system engineering, maintenance/installation management, and voice services. Bob retired from BB&T around age 65, 2015.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Marie and her Mother, Pat, both residents of Massena, NY. Bob has a brother Tony in Arizona; a brother Jimmy, a sister, Susan, both of Lake Peekskill, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his wife of 23 years, Lois Ridgway of Rocky Mount, NC, and a step-son, Matthew Ridgway of Raleigh, NC.
Visitation will be 2:00pm until 3:45pm on Tuesday, June 10th, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Pkwy, Wilson. A memorial service will begin at 4:00pm in the chapel.
