Robert Joel Mattson

Robert Mattson, 80, of Bemidji, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2025. He was born on July 10th, 1945 to Robert A. Mattson and Bertha H. Mattson (Polvi) in Cloquet, MN.

Robert made Bemidji his home for most of his life, where he was a cherished member of the community and a beloved husband, friend, and father.

Robert was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Toni Mattson, who passed in 2013. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and deep connection to the people around them.

He is survived by his two sons, Robin (Nicole) Mattson and Benjamin Mattson, and his two grandchildren, King Mattson and Stephanie Mattson, who carry forward his enduring spirit, warmth, and kindness.

Those who knew Robert will remember his magnetic sense of humor-sharp, joyful, and always perfectly timed. He had a way of lighting up a room and drawing people in with his laughter and wit. Whether sharing stories over coffee, fishing and hunting with friends, or cracking a joke at just the right moment, Robert brought joy to everyone around him.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Bemidji community, where his legacy of kindness, humor, and connection will live on.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 27th at their family cabin on Turtle River Lake, 11835 Davenport Ct NE. An ice cream truck and hot dogs will be provided.
