Robert Donald Maxcy died in Phoenix AZ on March 2nd 2016 from complications from pneumonia. Don struggled with Parkinson's Disease for over 22 years. Robert was born in Elizabeth NJ to Florence and Frederick Maxcy. He spent his early years in Warwick RI. The family moved to Croton Falls NY where he lived for twenty years until his marriage to Barbara Bufton in 1958. Don as he was called all his life, spent two years in the Coast Guard, and two years in US Army during the Korean War. He worked 45 years for Gannett Newspapers and was a Founding Father of USA Today. He retired in 1996. Those who passed before him are his father Frederick, his mother Florence, and brother Richard. He is survived by his caring wife of 58 years Barbara, daughters Deborah Meyers, Diane DeNigris and Denise Maxcy, and grandchildren Caroline, Valerie, Kevin, Kyle, and Melissa. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his devotion to his family and love of his home, which he help build and maintained for 55 years. He loved being near the water and spent many happy hours boating with his family on Candlewood Lake and in Rhode Island. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday March 11 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, 692 Route 6, Mahopac. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 12 at 11 am at Croton Falls Community Church, 628 Route 22, Croton Falls, NY.

I just heard about Don's passing. I knew him thru working at Gannett. He always had a smile and a witty comment. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep him and you/family in my thoughts and prayers
