Robert "Bob" McMitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the age of 77 years.
Born on November 22, 1948, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Bob was raised in Saskatoon before eventually making Calgary his home. Calgary is where he built his life, raised his family, and formed lasting friendships.
Bob was a devoted husband to Sylvia, his beloved wife of 54 years. Their marriage was a true partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and deep family commitment. He was a loving and proud father to his son, Chris (Christine) McMitchell, and his daughter Kelly (Dean) Fisher. His son-in-law and daughter-in-law were embraced as his own, a reflection of the generous way Bob loved his family.
Nothing brought Bob greater joy than being “Grandpa Mac”. He was a devoted grandfather to his four granddaughters — Ashley, Brooke, Sarah, and Hailey — who brought him endless pride and happiness. He cherished every moment spent with them.
Bob will be remembered as a true homebody who treasured time with his family above all else. He had a deep love of reading and an extensive knowledge of all kinds of sports that impressed everyone who knew him. He loved golfing and building friendships on the course — golf was truly his happy place.
Bob’s quiet strength, steady presence, and deep devotion to his family will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Lynne (Lee) Farrell and Cathy (Bill) Beeds; his in-laws Norman Sanche, Allan (Heather) Sanche, Richard (Brenda) Sanche, and Cherie Sanche; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He treasured the special friendship and laughter he shared with his cousins Murray Howland (Sheila) and Keith (Lindsey) McMitchell.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Brian Kim for his kindness and dedicated care.
A celebration of Bob’s Life will be announced once finalized.
