Robert “Merrill” Law, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and master craftsman, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, in Farmington, Utah, just two days shy of his 82nd birthday. Born on May 26, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Merrill lived a life marked by devotion—to his family, his faith, and his work.

For 63 years, Merrill shared an enduring and loving marriage with his sweetheart, Cheri Adele Paulus Law. Together, they built a strong and cherished family, raising five children: Malinda (Duane) Black, Jason (Sherry) Law, Nichole (Brian) Carter, Brandon (Janell) Law, and Coby (David) Jensen. Merrill took great pride in his posterity, with 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

A highly skilled and respected stone mason, Merrill began his craft in 1968 and never truly retired. His intricate work became his legacy, marked by extraordinary opportunities and deep dedication. Among his greatest honors, Merrill was privileged to help in the restoration of the Nauvoo Temple, where he held the trowel for the prophet during its dedication. While traveling, he had the rare opportunity to do some chisel work on the iconic Big Ben in England—a testament to his masterful skill and reputation.

Merrill was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Alongside his wife Cheri, he served four full-time missions, including in Nauvoo, Illinois, and St. Cloud, Florida. Their service reflected a shared commitment to faith, love, and lifting others wherever they were called.

He also dedicated over 20 years as a Boy Scout master, shaping the lives of countless young men with his steady leadership and example. Merrill found great joy in the outdoors—hunting, camping, boating, skiing, and simply being surrounded by nature. In his later years, he embraced woodworking and quietly watching the animals around his home, finding peace in the simple and sacred rhythms of life.

Merrill is preceded in death by his loving parents, Harold and Mabel Law; his brother, Stanley; his son-in-law, David Rico; his grandson, David Jason “DJ” Law; and his granddaughter, Avrie Celeste Carter.

He will be remembered not only for the beauty he created with his hands but for the strength, humility, and unwavering love he gave to those around him. Merrill’s legacy of faith, service, craftsmanship, and family devotion will live on for generations.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 31, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Farmington North Stake Center, 729 Shepard Lane, Farmington, Utah.
