Robert G. Miller, passed away on January 25, 2024, in Appleton. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. 

Bob was born on October 2, 1932, in Milwaukee, to Harry and Dorothy (Gieschen) Miller. He attended Rufus King High School and went on to pursue civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Bob was a US Army veteran and military policeman, during the Korean War.

From 1954 to 1969, Bob served as an assistant city engineer with the City of Beloit. In 1969, Bob embarked on a new chapter as the Director of Public Works with the City of Appleton. He held this position until his retirement in 1990, leaving behind a legacy marked by efficiency and excellence.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was a man of many talents and interests. He took great pride in the lake home he built in Minoqua, Wisconsin – a testament to his creativity and craftsmanship. Stained glass work and carpentry were among his favorite hobbies, showcasing his meticulous nature and handy skills. Bob found joy in attending auctions and going antiquing, always seeking treasures with stories to tell.

One aspect of Bob's life that brought him immense joy was travel. He had a deep appreciation for exploring different cultures and experiencing new adventures. Europe held a special place in his heart, particularly through river cruises that allowed him to soak in the beauty of historic landscapes. Community involvement was also an essential part of Bob's life. He dedicated his time to Eternal Love Lutheran Church, where he served as a handyman and church treasurer. His commitment to serving others and contributing to his community was deeply ingrained in his character.

Surviving Bob are his beloved wife Barbara; Brian (Brenda) Miller, Lisa (Rick) Miller, and Richard Miller, step-children Michael (Karen) Karweick, Mark (Kim) Karweick, Matthew (Katherine) Karweick, grandchildren John, Nicholas, Kathryn, Abigail, Elizabeth, Adam, Alexandra, Brittany; step-grandchildren Arron, Ryan, Jacob, Sarah, Jane, Petra and Nora, many great-grandchildren, sister Joan (Otto) Klieve, sisters-in-law Dorothy Regelein, Jane (Donald) Kettner, Nancy (Bruce) Buchholtz, Jean (David) Richardson and son-in-law Jim Petronovich. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Michele Petronovich.

A visitation for Bob will take place on February 24, 2024 at Eternal Love Lutheran Church, 1011 Midway Road in Appleton, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor David Backus and Pastor Robert Balza, will follow at 11:00 am. 

Robert G. Miller led a life filled with purpose and passion that resonated with all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. He will forever be remembered as a meticulous, hardworking, and creative spirit who left an indelible mark on his community and the hearts of his loved ones. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the memories shared and the profound impact he had during his time with us. May his soul find eternal rest, knowing that he has left behind an enduring legacy of love, dedication, and service.
