Robert James Miller 83, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and he was the son of the late William Miller and Martha Voorhes Miller. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother William Miller, sister-in-law Mary Miller, and brother-in-law Richard Green.
In his early years, Bobby had the brilliant idea that every city boy needed a horse. Somehow, he convinced his older brother to loan him the money to purchase his horse named Pie when he was 16. He also had a passion for ice skating whether at Panther Hollow in Oakland or the Gardens across from the Cathedral, gliding around the ice like it was a second home through his high school years.
Bob's next investment came at 19 when he purchased a cottage for a steal, we believe six dollars (and yes, it was as run-down as it sounds). He spent many weekends with his dad and a family friend Oscar working to transform his cottage with some upgrades: a foundation, walls, a roof, electricity, heat, the works. He had his fair share of parties up there, filling the cottage with laughter and good times. Little did he know, purchasing his cottage would lead him to the best decision of his life in marrying the woman who would stick with him for fifty-four rewarding years.
Bob began his career in financial services, transitioned to sales within the phone industry, and finished his career running a healthcare assisted living facility. He was a man never caught without a story and rarely restrained from telling an inappropriate joke. Some of his happiest days were taking his family to Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania for boating (while listening to his beloved 50s era music soundtracks loud enough to ensure the fish and neighboring boaters knew exactly what music era was best) and camping. Dragging his kids out fishing was a longtime hobby, one he proudly continued with his three grandchildren. The highlight of his fishing career will forever remain the day he landed a stingray big enough to qualify as a family legend off the coast in Myrtle Beach.
If there is one thing we know for certain, it is that Bob was Mr. Christmas in the full, unapologetic, Griswold-level sense of the title. With a young family assisting, he enthusiastically and absolutely without negotiation, forced the kids into hauling approximately 47 tons of decorations down from the attic lovingly insisting it was a "fun family bonding experience". Later in life, he would dress up to wear a full Santa Suit (he had the "build" for it) for his three grandchildren (Dylan, Abby, and Morgan) providing them with lasting and wonderful Christmas Memories. He also enjoyed many Karaoke nights with his grandkids complete with various musical instruments that may or may not have survived the evening.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn C. Miller; two children Shannon Geraci (Jack); Christopher Miller (Carol); one sister Carolyn Green (Richard); three grandchildren, Dylan Miller, Abriana Geraci, Morgan Miller, and many other family and friends who will miss him.
A celebration of life will occur sometime in Calendar Year 2026.
